So now that we are done traveling… we decided it was time to start THINKING about adding a new fuzzer to our lives. So we decided to go down to the local shelter and get some more ideas – cat or bun, etc. We saw a few cats (fell in love with one but somehow she didn’t come home, I’m still mystified there, I intended to talk Peter into a cat…) and looked at all 8 buns at the shelter. 6 were white with spots, too like Scamper. One of the remaining 2 were just too big, so there was only one candidate who could POSSIBLY tug on our heartstrings. We thought it was safe to let her out to hop (before twisting Peter’s arm about the cat Tia). And boy did she surprise us. She didn’t at all have the shelter personality (run, hide, thump if anything moves). In fact, she let me scoop her gently up and plop her on my lap where she settled in for some petting before demonstrating the classic bunny short attention span and bolting off to something different. She’s a gorgeous all black. and she was pretty young too – 7 months. Somehow she just hopped into a box and followed us home 😛

She’s been spending the last few days getting acclimated, first in the bathroom, now in the partly assembled rabbit cage (no carpet for her til she’ learns to use the box!) The bathroom was a socialization nightmare. Buns paws are not padded like cats and dogs – they have furry paws with claws. you can well imagine how this moves on tile. Bun socialization is all about pretending to ignore them until they let you pet them, and pretending not to care when they run away. She couldn’t run away (she’d often slide off on her back trying!) so she just stayed scared. So we got the cage cleaned out and moved her into just the bottom floor of it. meanwhile we tossed around names and have tentatively decided on Eclipse, or Klipsy for short (also Calypso as a nickname) I also gave in (she’s extremely curious and clearly WANTED OUT) and let her hop around the floor a bit. She’s already hopping up to us willingly, but is pretty skittish. Today she’s decided to spend the entire afternoon hiding in a cardboard box, where the black bunny is IMPOSSIBLE to see. I have additionally nicknamed her The Bun Nikita because she’s make a great spy with those radar dish ears…
